To reduce itchy eyes, avoiding common allergens can be essential: pollens, animal dander, dust, and smoke all contribute to itchy eyes. Dust mite allergies are common and using a hypoallergenic pillow case and washing it frequently often helps as well.
Allergies can make your eyes red, itchy and swollen. Avoiding the offending allergens is not always possible and when that is the case, our doctors can prescribe effective antihistamine eye drops.
Dry Eye Syndrome can be caused by low tear production and or poor tear quality. Dry eyes can cause your eyes to be red, blurry, dry and feel like they are burning and irritated.
One problem many people have is that their eyes dry more while on a computer for long hours. While you are on a screen people tend not to blink hard enough to pump out normal tears. A simple technique called the 20-20-20 rule can be helpful to minimize your symptoms. The 20-20-20 rule is all about giving your eyes a break! When working on a computer or digital device take a break every 20 minutes, by looking 20 feet away for about 20 seconds and blink forcefully several times. This will remoisten your eyes and keep you more comfortable.
Possible professional treatments include: lubricant eye drops, professional moist heat, tear gland expression, eye lid debridement, punctal plugs, eyelid sprays, and prescription eye drops.
Our doctors will evaluate your condition and prescribe the proper treatment plan to relieve your symptoms. Schedule an appointment today. We will be happy to help!
We can also insert Punctal Plugs to help alleviate dry eye. Here is a good article explaining the plugs.
Due to advances in technology most people can now wear contact lenses. There is new contact lens technology for people with astigmatism, for people who wear bifocals, and for people with both vision problems. We offer an array of contacts including soft disposable lenses and rigid gas permeables. Now that daily disposable contact lenses are available in most prescriptions they are advisable for most patients. Daily disposables reduce your risk for eye infections, allergies, discomfort and dryness because you are wearing a fresh new lens every day. The price of daily disposables is now comparable to the price of reusable lenses especially since you don’t need to purchase any solutions and our office has almost unbelievable rebates. It just makes sense for most people to make the switch.
Schedule an appointment with one of our contact lens specialists and we will be happy to make sure to fit you with comfortable contacts that give you great vision. Also, we are a green office. We can recycle all used contact lenses, and the contact lens foil wrappers. Just save them in a plastic bag, bring them to our office and we will send them to B & L to recycle.
